The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services offers various levels of treatment for adults with dependence on alcohol or other drugs. The Department also collaborates with providers in the community to provide continuous and comprehensive treatment for consumers with co-occurring disorders (substance abuse and mental health).

Adult Addiction Services offers assessment, referral and a range of treatment options based on specific needs. All services use an abstinence-oriented approach, including participation in self-help groups and mandatory urine monitoring (drug testing). Priority is given to adult Montgomery County residents. Fees are charged at all treatment programs; however, a sliding fee scale may be available with proper documentation and no one is refused services due to inability to pay. Maryland Medical Assistance (MA) is accepted. Bi-lingual staff is available and programs are accessible for persons with disabilities.

This team assists helps Montgomery County residents obtain and or access behavioral health services (mental health and or substance abuse). Adult consumers who are eligible for substance abuse services are linked to the Addictions Services programs in the County. Consumers of all ages who are eligible for the Public Mental Health System are linked with providers who are able to provide the requested service at a location convenient for the consumer. Spanish language capacity is immediately available and consumers who speak other languages are assisted.

- Outpatient Addiction Services (OAS)

Substance abuse treatment services are provided for adults in a community based treatment model focused on abstinence. Adults served include those who are homeless, pregnant, unemployed, or have mental or physical health problems. Outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment services are available.

- Additional Addiction Outpatient Services

Other Outpatient Services are provided by referral for individuals who do not require intensive outpatient services. Outpatient offices are at regional sites. DWI/DUI assessment and treatment services are also available. Adults with private insurance may access treatment services through their insurer.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
240-777-1679 An alternative treatment program for eligible persons dependent on opiates offers medical management of methadone maintenance therapy and counseling services.

- Avery Road Combined Care (ARCC)
301-279-8828 Substance abuse treatment provided 20 hours per week for persons with additional problems – including homelessness, chronic relapse, mental or physical health problems.

Avery Road Treatment Center provides two levels of care: detoxification and intermediate care. Eligibility is based upon medical necessity criteria. Please call the number indicated above for additional information.

- Residential Treatment for Addiction Services

Access to Residential Treatment is via Addiction Services, Behavioral Health Access to Care or Avery Road Treatment Center. Services include:

• Half-way house for men/women
• Half-way house for women and their children under age 12
• Long-term residential program
• Therapeutic Community

Urine Monitoring Program
240-777-4710 Provides random and weekly collection and testing of urine samples for drugs of abuse. Available to agency partners and private citizens for a per test fee. Results may be released to referral source.
