As a Past-President of the American Association of Psychiatric Administrator, as an APA Administrator of the year [1989], and as one certified as a Psychiatric Administrator, I ask that you support me for APAPresident-elect.
Two decades ago, Carolyn Robinowitz, Paul Fink and I began the effort to give allied organizations some power in the governance of the APA. As a result, AAPA now has a seat in the Assembly.
Doing more with less will be the major test for the 2010-11 President. No matter what happens to the US economy, APA's revenues will decline in the near future. As administrators, you and I have faced this challenge and managed to keep programs growing in the face decreasing resources. Some non-administrators have suggest that the budgetary challenge be met by decreasing member involvement. We must do the opposite. We must make greater use of voluntarism, both of individuals and or organizations to keep the APA's activities continuing to grow. Furthermore, increasing volunteers and allied organization ties, associated with bottom-up governance, will make the APA more democratic. I will look to AAPA members for suggestions and for proposals of roles AAPA or its members would suggest to assure the viability of the APA.
