Designing a Kitchen Backsplash In New York

Designing a kitchen splashback can sound complicated and intimidating. Many of my clients call me and don't know where to start. So, here are some tips to guide you along the way.

1. Define the purpose of your backsplash – If you have a new granite countertop and beautiful new cabinetry, you may want one of them to be a focal point. What trips people up is that they start looking at each part of the kitchen one by one and they just can't.

2. Decide what style you want – Do you want a more modern, more classic designed kitchen? Do you prefer a backsplash that is more like natural stone (with multiple textures and color variations) or do you prefer a smooth, shiny look with less color variation? Consider browsing some home or kitchen magazines to see what you like. You can also visit the popular tile store in New York to buy the backsplash tiles for your kitchen.

3. Choose other basic items first – It's usually best to choose cabinets, tables and floors first. From now on, it's usually pretty easy (if you work with an expert) to find a working back tile. Make sure you have a sample of each of these items so you can coordinate the color and texture of your tiles.

4. Color: If you are having trouble with visualization, wait until you choose your backsplash color. I have so many clients that I can't even imagine what it will be like when it's all over. No wonder, because when you redesign your entire kitchen, almost every element changes.

5. Set a budget –  This can quickly limit your options (for example, can you buy natural stone or glass, or should we use ceramic or porcelain?). Rear planes are usually more expensive than most customers would expect because of the work and attention required (e.g., centered around each piece and working around the outlet).
